MoreThe tone and pacing of Detective Conan is very Scooby Doo. Nothing mind-blowing here but it's a lot of fun. The animation reminds me of my favorite cartoon ever, The Boondocks!! The end scene is very The Dark Knight, very which warehouse is Rachel Dawes in? The villain is Joker-esque. Think Joker meets Jay Gatsby. I think it's also a good intro to anime type experience. Even though I love something like Neon Genesis Evangelion, I would warm someone interested in the style up with something like this first. Nothing too crazy on the brain but a nice palette wetter.
The Anime Marches On! Challenge(14/26)
Five Anime Films from the Nineties(3/5)Confession time: I knew next to nothing about Detective Conan before watching this, but had seen the franchise pop up enough in my periphery that I figured it was time to check something from it out.
So I gotta admit, when I watched the beginning of this first Conan feature film and learned it was about a teenage whiz kid of a detective who was ambushed by some villain with an experimental serum that shrunk the teen back to the size of an elementary school kid who now solves crimes with an array of fancy gadgets, I think the first words out of my mouth were 'you…
One of the earlier Detective Conan films and is one of the better ones too. I enjoyed the central mystery as every murder and bombing leads to the main culprit.
Yes, the way Conan goes about in apprehending the culprit requires some leap of faith but then again, if you are watching for a realistic take on a detective story, you are watching the wrong TV and film series.
I guess we'll never see Shinichi and Ran together until the series end...
Watched via Android Box in Japanese with English subtitles.
A very nice crime thriller and a very solid addition to the Detective Conan franchise.
Some things are overexplained but the story in itself is a good one and is able to fill a feature length film. Also the kids aren't as annoying in this as they are sometimes. It's not as good as my favorite movie of this franchise: The Fourteenth Target. It feels more like a (good) big double episode of the series than a full movie. Still one of the stronger movies of the franchise.
i will reiterate that the premise of detective conan is existentially terrifying
Looking at the long list of Lupin movies I’m yet to watch I noticed Lupin Vs Detective Conan among them. Got me curious since I heard the name but knew nothing about this character. And aside from some some standard murder mystery adult themes and a bit of blood, it’s mostly kid friendly. The origin story for this kid, briefly covered, is bizarre and I would assume covered in a way that makes some kind of sense in the TV series. I’ve never watched an episode but they fill up a narrative length pretty well here, with a tone that at times evoked Speed and Die Hard. My kids seem to prefer this over Lupin so we will no doubt be watching more.
I got into Detective Conan years ago, and have recently been getting back into it. While there are things I like about it and things I don't like, it's generally pretty easy to jump back in at any point and still have a good time, especially because it doesn't focus much on an overarching plot. All you really need to know is that it's about a clever high-school aged detective named Shinichi regressed into the body of a grade schooler solving mysteries while keeping his true identity a secret and going by the name Conan Edogawa. When it's at its best it showcases very entertaining characters solving somewhat absurd but intriguing and well thought out mysteries. The show also backs…

I’m giving this 5 stars to spite y’all
Good entertainment. Has heart, tension, comedy and lovely characters.
